In order to create a backup of a database, either the database must be brought down or a dump must be saved in order to get a consistent state of the database in the backup. When saving an Oracle database under Windows, it is also possible to make use of the VSS interface: Oracle describes in the Database Platform Guide, 8 Performing Database Backup and Recovery with VSS how to set up the VSS writer module for the database. PresSTORE is capable of using VSS to create a volume based backup. In order to enable the use of VSS in PresSTORE, simply define a VSS mapping for the drive letter where Oracle is installed. PresSTORE will then use the VSS interface to create a consistent snapshot of the drive. | |
