Synchronizing over time zones with PresSTORE on Windows
Posted by Sven Koester, Last modified by Sven Koester on 02 September 2009 10:09
When synchronizing files over the internet, it may make sense to add an initial step to speed up the initial synchronization
Customers than often follow this scheme:
  1. Synchronize the files from the source to an external disk
  2. Ship he disk to the destination
  3. Synchronize the files from the external disk to the final target
  4. Start synchronizing from source to target, this procedure will transfer the delta only.
Doing so with source and target in different timezones is also OK with PresSTORE.
Care must be taken when an external disk with FAT file system is used. FAT does not handle timezones, so the time stamps
of the files will differ on source and target. Because of this, PresSTORE will transfer all files again.

In order to avoid that effect, please format the external disk before use, e.g. to NTFS on Windows, or to the standard file system on
Unix host.
