QuickTime Components extend Preview Capability

PresSTORE Archive can generate previews for media formats supported by Apple´s QuickTime architecture. Though this covers most needs (e.g. from PDF and aiff to png, jpg, m4v and mov) it is possible that the required format is not among them. In this case you can easily extend PresSTORE Archives preview capabilities by putting the QuickTime component supporting the format in question in /Library/QuickTime.
Additional codecs are available through the QuickTime components page at Apple. There are other sources and manufacturers like MXF4mac that supports the professional MXF format.

Windows users will need to download and install Quicktime in order to be able to generate previews. Please note: As of P5.3, preview encoding using Quicktime for Windows is no longer supported.

As an alternative, a program like ImageMagick could be used. ImageMagick is also available for Linux and OS X.

Does it mean that on Windows the P5.3+ Quicktime previews will definitively not work or that Archiware will not help anymore on previews issues concerning P5.3 Windows Quicktime ?

As you're probably aware, Apple has stopped supporting Quicktime on Windows. As a result, Apple won't be releasing any more security or bug fixes (https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA16-105A) - leaving Windows systems that have Quicktime installed vulnerable to security breaches. In the meantime, P5 has gone 64-bit. With that, 32-bit Quicktime no longer works with 64-bit P5. We recommend uninstalling Quicktime for Windows and using ImageMagick/ffmpeg instead (see other KB articles on this topic).
