As of 3.2.2, PresSTORE includes a simple disk speed test utility. This utility can be used to check the data-transfer speed to and from a given hard disk drive. k|K = kilo (= size * 1024)
m|M = mega (= size * 1024 * 1024) g|G = giga (= size * 1024 * 1024 * 1024) The command reports the write speed and the read speed, both in KBytes/sec. The first of the two commands uses the default blocksize of 32 kB, the second command shows that a blocksize of 64 kB results in a higher throughput in the tested system.
Note In today's computer architectures, there are almost always multiple caches involved to speed up disk operations. We recommend using a file size bigger than the available RAM on the computer to reduce the influence of caching in the test results. | |
