Loading tapes from a mail slot directly into a drive is not supported

P5 does not allow to load a tape directly from a mail slot (I/O slot) into a drive in the library.
The front panel interface and the libraries own Web interface of some models however allows to do so.

Nevertheless, loading a tape from an I/O slot into a tape drive directly is not supported by P5.
The reason is that the library stores internally where the tape came from. When P5 requires another tape in the drive,
it will attempt to unload the tape to that stored address, that results in one of the following:
  • Either the tape cannot be moved back and remains in the drive, which implies the drive is blocked for further operation, or
  • the tape is moved into the robot sledge in the library, causing the complete library to be blocked as no tape movement is possible anymore.
