MAC address for restored VMs
Posted by Marijan Kozic on 28 May 2019 15:06
When restoring a Virtual Machine, Archiware Pure follows the vSphere MAC configuration settings originally configured on the backed up VM.

If the original VM had the MAC address manually assigned to a certain value, restored VMs will use the same value for their MAC address. If the original VM is still present in the same vSphere inventory, this could lead to MAC address conflicts which will be reported by vSphere GUI and which can be resolved by manually configuring a different address there.

If the original VM had the MAC address automatically assigned by a vCenter server or an ESXi host, the restored VM will also use this feature. No conflicts are possible since the restored VM will have a unique MAC address assigned at the time of creation. However, if your system relies on a particular MAC address assigned to the VM, you may need to manually reconfigure the address to the desired value using vSphere GUI.
